A Man Of Action

1 While Israel was staying in Acacia Grove, the people began to have sexual relations with the women of Moab.  2 The women invited them to the sacrifices for their gods, and the people ate and bowed in worship to their gods. 3 So Israel aligned itself with Baal of Peor, and the LORD’s anger burned against Israel. 4The LORD said to Moses, “Take all the leaders of the people and execute them in broad daylight before the LORD so that His burning anger may turn away from Israel.”  5 So Moses told Israel’s judges, “Kill each of the men who aligned themselves with Baal of Peor.”

-Numbers 25:1-5-

While Balaam could not curse Israel for Balak he may have accomplished more than Balak truly dreamed possible, the downfall of a nation.  We are told in Revelation 2:14 that Balaam gave Balak the strategy for dooming the Israelites.  It is a strategy that continues to be our own downfall today.  When we warmly embrace the cold, steel, deathly embrace of sin, we ultimately embrace our own demise. Wow.  That looks so very familiar.  The body language says more than what is necessary to know what is happening.  Regardless of how much you love each other, there will be times of disagreement.  Even in a unified marriage there will be certain topics and situations that will be, by nature, divisive.  The question we should ask ourselves is not “how to avoid all disagreement”.  No.  Rather, we should seek to find a way to keep disagreements from becoming bloodied battlefields littered with the remains of trust, unity, and love. When I was a young pastor, just beginning in the ministry, I was asked to officiate a wedding.  This was one of my very first weddings since being ordained and I believe I was as nervous as the bride and groom.  We met and discussed what they were looking for in the ceremony and their expectations of the big day.
